Troublesome chair

Image
“Who is sitting on that empty chair?” We all spend time sitting on different chairs, at home, in office, coffee shops, and class rooms every day. We are sitting for various time durations. People working in offices, tend to sit a little more while working on computers, or there are some other jobs requiring sitting for long hours. People sitting for prolonged hours and working often complain of pain in back. Therefore, they choose the best chairs for them, more comfortable, cushiony, something that feels soft on our backs and comfortable on our buttocks and might trouble us a little less. Ergonomics says, there are certain angles of knees or elbows that should be attained while sitting on chair and working. According to ergonomics, the posture that is attained after adjusting the measurements imposes lesser stresses on our body and is less harmful and relieves pain. We often use cushions, back rests or arm rests that modifies our chairs and looks much more comfortable. Th...

BUSTING THE MYTHS

7 Myths about Physiotherapy. The word “myth” is derived from a Greek word “mythos” meaning “story”. It expresses a culture, which has been followed since ancient times, an old practice, thoughts and values. These are the stories which are now considered to be exaggerated. It often includes the misconceptions about something which is being continued to believe even today. Physiotherapy is an old practice, which came into existence in 460 BC by physicians like Hippocrates. They introduced the idea of manual manipulation, hydrotherapy and massage therapy. By the end of 19 th century, modern physiotherapy was established. Myth #1- Physiotherapy is all about massage. Most of us believe that “physiotherapists are the massage therapists”. Hold on there! “Physiotherapists” are “physiotherapists” specialized in physical medicine a...

'knots in the muscles'

Image
THE TRIGGER POINTS image from google You might be thinking about how knots can even be growing inside your muscles. Is this possible for a muscle to develop knots inside? Well, Yes! These things are for real. You do sometimes have knots in your muscles usually called as the MYOFASCIAL TRIGGER POINTS, in medical terms. Recently I have been doing a research as a partial fulfillment for my BPT course, and I found some really good results and learnt a lot of new concepts. My research was based on the management of trigger points, a comparative study between two treatment protocols. So, here I decided to share with you my experience throughout the research and also I’ll try to explain you in brief what these points actually are. TRIGGER POINTS (Tying up of the muscles). Trigger points (muscle knots) are the small hyperirritable nodules often found in a tight band of muscle fibers. These knots are sometimes palpable as a considerably big round knot found d...

My blogging journey

Image
My journey so far: peaks and valleys. "will it be easy? nope. worth it? absolutely!" Starting up with a blog in third year of graduation wasn’t easy, in a four and a half years Bachelors in Physiotherapy program. You know a lot of things but you still lack many. When I decided to join physiotherapy, I wasn’t much aware of what actually I need to do as a professional. Just the same way my family and friends didn’t know much about what this profession actually holds. All I knew was exercise, but trust me, it’s much more than that. As I began to understand physiotherapy slowly, by the end of my first year or second year, people around me began to ask questions about it. The simplest of questions like, why do we use heat? How does heat relieves pain? Heat or ice? How can I be benefited with a therapeutic machine? How does exercise help us? And many more. India is still lagging behind in understanding the role and importance of physiotherapy. P...
