BENEFITS OF EXERCISE
“Exercise
is more than just physical, it’s therapeutic”- Michelle Obama
Whenever we
talk about fitness (particularly physical fitness), the very first thing that
comes to our minds is exercise. Whether you want to lose weight, go for body
toning or body building, or deal with a cardiac condition, physicians always
advise you to go for routine exercise. People often feel lazy to follow a daily
exercise routine, either don’t have time for exercise or sometimes are quiet
impatient to get the results. That’s why it becomes a little difficult for a
person to carry out any such physical activity for long. Physiotherapists ask
you to add exercise to your lifestyle. Because
we believe that ‘it adds years to life’. We also believe that it’s not only
physical body that is benefited by the exercise but the vital organs also gets
improved. Exercise provides relaxation and reduced stress, and helps in coping
up with a lot of psychological conditions as well. Exercises can be done in
many different forms for example, aerobics, yoga, strengthening exercises, flexibility
exercises, weight lifting, aqua training, cardiovascular training, sports
drills, etc. Ever wondered why is exercise so important? What effects is it
causing to our body? What changes will exercise bring to our body? Let’s have a
look.
· Brain
Exercises not
only affects your physical body but also enhances the cognitive activities,
attention, integration of thoughts and emotions, multi-tasking, problem
solving, memory, appetite regulation. It increases the production of
neurochemicals that enhances the repair of any damage causing to the brain
cells. It improves the memory, and increases the growth of new nerve cells and
blood vessels.
· Heart
Exercises
like running, jogging, and treadmill enhances the cardiovascular endurance
which helps in coping up with cardiovascular conditions. A heart workout makes
it stronger just like other muscles of the body. It pumps out more blood for
muscles and fulfills oxygen requirement of the body at work. The high level of
adipose tissue in the body causes cardiovascular diseases, exercise cut off the
adipose tissue and reduces the chances of development of such disease. It regulates
the blood pressure and blood clotting factors as well. There is a reduced
stress which some or the other way is connected to the cardiovascular health of
a person. The diseases which may occur due to high inactivity are mayocardial
infarction, hypertension, arthosclerosis.
· Bones, joints and muscles
The muscle strength plays a very significant role in carrying out day to
day life activities. And becomes more important if you are a sportsperson as
higher amount of energy is required to carry out different sports activities. Muscle
strength may reduce due to reasons like old age or any trauma. Then there is a
need to re-build the muscle strength. Also, if a person has been exercising throughout
his life, in old age there is definitely less amount of strength lost and the
muscles are stronger than the other people in the same age group. Exercise enhances
the muscle strength and flexibility. It helps in maintaining a full range of
motion at the joints and makes them more flexible and mobile. Low impact exercises
also improves the stability of the joint. This helps in avoiding early degenerative
changes in the joint and keeps them protected from arthritis for long. Also, it
makes the bones and joints less prone to pain.
· Lungs
Certain breathing exercises plays a very significant role in improving
the compromised breath in persons having cardiorespiratory problems. Also, the
exercises helps in flushing out the fluid secretions of the people having cough
with sputum. Deep breathing lung exercises improves the breathing pattern of a
person.
· Bowel
Adding exercise to you day will add health and happiness in your life as
the body releases endorphins. It makes you feel energetic, less fatigued and
provides more efficiency at work. Exercise changes your mind, mood, and
attitude. It is a kind of medication that you need every day. Give yourself a
better way of treatment than dozens of pills and surgeries. Add more physical
activities to your daily routine. Take out time for your body, mind and soul. Improve
your habits improve health.
Take care,
Jasrah.
