Exercise and Mood.

HOW EXERCISE CONTROLS MOOD

“You’re only one workout away from good mood”

Women of today’s world are not same anymore, they have changed in every possible manner. Beginning her day from waking up early in the morning and rushing to the kitchen to returning home after a tiring day at office and finally going to bed. In such a chaotic way of living, women face lots of emotional situations as well. As rightly quoted, “Women are not as immune from emotions as men”, a day in a woman’s life is full of different emotions, happiness, sadness, anger, frustration, disappointment, tiredness and what not. Women these days are so busy managing stuffs in their lives that they forget themselves. Their inner peace is lost somewhere. A lot of women try many different remedies, some change their dietary habits, some listen to their favorite music and some go for counselling in extreme situations.

What if I say, there can be an even better option to deal with all the day-to-day life activities and to have control over your emotions and mood swings. EXERCISE! yes it is. Exercise not only helps you manage your physique but also helps you regulate your emotions. More exercise brings more oxygen to brain to function better. There occurs release of certain hormones that leads to changes in your mental state. Endorphins are produced by the pituitary gland of the central nervous system which inhibits the pain signal transmission. The production of endorphins are triggered by physical activity. Another important hormones are dopamine and serotonin. Dopamine acts as a neurotransmitter which helps in transmission of signals from brain to other parts of the body and plays an important role in reward-motivated behavior which includes feeling of motivation, craving for reward, positive attitude, pleasure and joy. Whereas serotonin plays a major role in feeling of happiness, well-being, sleep, appetite and mood.

All these positive emotions are very important for our body to deal with the hectic schedules leading to a feeling of fatigue. A very simple cure to all the negative vibes around you is the addition of a minimum of 30 mins of exercise to your daily routine. Go for morning walks, running, jogging, do some simple stretches of major muscles, a little bit of resistance training, deep breathing exercises, endurance and relaxation exercises. Adapt a habit of warm up before and after beginning with the flexibility exercises. Resistance training can be done with the simplest of objects found in your house in the form of water bottles, paper weights, and heavy boxes according to your tolerance. Beginning your day with exercise helps your body to withstand fatigue and manage work load throughout the day by reducing stress. It keeps your mind free of unnecessary worries and pain. It gives you enough strength to carry out daily life activities of home and office along with going an extra mile to help your children with their homework after a long tiring day. Exercise improves the quality of life.

Engage yourself in such activities which helps improve overall fitness, gives a major impact on your mind along with the other parts of the body. Also, exercise prevents the re-occurrence of such mental and physical difficulties by enhancing the secretion of certain hormones and chemicals in the body which improves mental health, emotions, thoughts and mental activities. Exercise helps you in the long run. Most of us are more productive when we are feeling good. All the women out there might associate themselves with this article in some or the other way. Let’s bring one more positive change to our lives. Let’s work for our own mental well-being.

Take Care.
